What are You Reading this Summer?

Reading and summer are a great mix. ... Light summer reading is an annual tradition.

Summer is a great time to catch up on reading, when the days are longer and the weather is perfect for lounging around with a great book. Summer and Vacation heightens our capacity to immerse ourselves in a good read. Quite simply, we are more open to it.

In our regular lives we’re all over-scheduled, and probably stressed. In addition to that stress, we carry a heavy “cognitive load” each day—the constant need to sort and weigh information in an over stimulated environment. When you’re sitting on a beach, the cognitive load is very low. You have time to wonder, to let your mind wander, to be really curious, to be introspective.

Summer not only primes us for the pleasure of reading, it can also make the experience more beneficial. In particular, reading literary, character-driven stories can make us more open, empathic people after we go back to work.

Studies have shown that Stories that put you in the characters’ shoes and invite you to contemplate their actions and motives promote empathy - but they’re also just fun to read.

Studies are also showing that less people are reading books than ever before because of cell phones and the Internet.  Don’t let this wonderful art pass you by.

My Books

Have you ever wondered what got me started on my spiritual path?  Mine is quite an unusual story.  I always had intuitive abilities and could see things that others could not.  Basically I took it for granted and didn’t question it.  Having been brought up in religion made me an atheist by the time I was 18 years old.  How I found my spiritual path is probably the most unusual than anyone could ever experience.  Check out my book Heavenly Seduction which tells the story of my crazy introduction into faith.  You can also listen to me read the first chapter of my book.

I also have written several other Ebooks on a variety of topics.

Put down the cell phone and indulge yourself in the luxury of reading be it a novel, fiction, biography, autobiography, or science fiction.  Whatever you do this summer make sure you take some time to delve into a good book.

Summer blessings,
Cherokee Billie
